Tia Chucha’s Cultural Center & Bookstore open its door in 2001 in the City of Sylmar, as a bookstore and a coffee shop. In the year of 2006 Tia Chucha’s was pushed out from there first location on Glenoaks Blvd. and Sayer St. and forced to move to a smaller location unequipped to hold a coffee shop. Unfortunately, in this process the warehouse in which Tia Chucha’s stored their coffee equipment was broken into and their equipment was stolen. After this tragedy, Tia Chucha's decided to keep its door open as a cultural center only. Since, operating as a non-profit organization has been a financial struggle and has made it difficult for Tia Chucha’s to reestablishing its Cafe. As the project as of Tia Chucha’s,
Young Warriors aims to help Tia Chucha’s Cafe reopen its doors. Starting Spring of 2016 to Fall of 2016 Young Warriors will initiate the start of their new program: Bringing Back Tia Chucha’s Cafe. The program is designed as a 20 training internship program that will coach 10 selected high school students ages 14-17 how to write and present a business plan. The program will take place once a week at Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural for a period of two hours. The training will start February 24 and end August 24.
